Steelhead Roe (Uncured) - 1/2lb


Fresh uncured steelhead trout roe.  Easy to cure with a short brine in saltwater then rinse under hot running water.  Add aromatics as you see fit.

  1. This trout roe arrives fresh, uncured, still in its skein. Take care to rinse the skein beforehand in cold water.
  2. Dissolve 1/2 cup salt, 1T sugar, and any desirable aromatics (Lemon Zest or Garlic) in 2qt water.
  3. Submerge salmon roe in the "brine" for 30 minutes.
  4. Drain well.
  5. Over a fine colander or strainer and using as hot tap water as you can stand hold the roe sac under the hot running water and gently rub with your thumb to release the beads of roe from the membrane.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator until cold and they are ready to serve.
