Riverdog Farms raises these Red Ranger Whole Chickens on pasture in mobile coops under their fruit and nut orchards. Each coop is moved everyday, allowing the birds to constantly graze on fresh pasture. The Red Ranger breed was developed in France for the gourmet and specialty market. They take longer to reach maturity (12 weeks as opposed to the standard 5-7) and the result is a chicken with a supreme depth of flavor. Simply put, this is what chicken is supposed to taste like! While they are raised under CCOF certified organic conditions, they are not certified organic because they are processed in a non certified organic facility.
These chickens come to us with head and feet attached, weighing roughly 4.5 lbs total.
